Vintage Floof started with a family habit of collecting things that were too good to leave behind.
Our story starts with my mom, Penny, known to Avery as her Mimi. She has always loved antiques, repurposed furniture, vintage clothing, and well-made pieces with some age to them. Her father owned a clothing store in St. Joseph, Michigan, so an appreciation for clothing and craftsmanship has been part of our family for a long time.
Over the years, that love of old things grew into restoring historic homes and filling them with antique furniture and décor found through estate sales, antique shops, and private collections. While we were out looking for furniture and pieces for the homes, we kept coming across vintage clothing.
At first, we would just pick up the occasional piece that seemed too special to pass up. A bridal gown, a 1960s party dress, a 1930s silk slip. Then one piece turned into another, and before long we had built a collection without really meaning to.
Avery was the one who eventually said we should do something with it.
After finishing her master’s degree in Italy, she came home and joined the business. Since then, we have been sourcing together and growing Vintage Floof one find at a time.
We are drawn to pieces that feel genuinely hard to come across. Beautiful fabrics, unique details, great construction, and clothing that has something about it you do not see every day. We have a particular weakness for early twentieth-century fashion, especially silk slips and garments from the 1900s through the 1940s, but we are not strict about eras. If we love it, we bring it home.
Everything in Vintage Floof is chosen by us individually. Some pieces are more than a hundred years old, some show their age, and some have somehow survived in incredible condition. We love the process of finding them, learning about them, and getting them into the hands of someone who is just as excited about them as we are.
